Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Foldable phone gets useful function

Samsung’s upcoming folding smartphone Galaxy Z Flip 5 is to receive support for DeX for the first time. This means that even the small Samsung smartphone can become a desktop computer via a monitor, just like the big ones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 with DeX support

Despite some high-end features, the Galaxy Z Flip series is not one of the very best Samsung cell phones. This is probably one of the reasons why the manufacturer has so far hesitated to equip the smartphones with DeX functions that require a lot of power. But that should change with the next generation. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to come with DeX support (Source: SamMobile).

If Samsung actually dares to take the step, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be the smallest smartphone that can be converted into a workstation via HDMI adapter or USB-C connection. The mobile phone is connected to a monitor, tablet or smart TV via a cable a desktop-like interface to be able to offer. Mouse and keyboard can also be connected.

Support for DeX is already available on Samsung’s Fold variant mobile phones, as well as on Galaxy Tab tablets from the S4 and many S and earlier Note series phones. However, it remains unclear whether, after introducing the function for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 also support older models in the series becomes. A software update would be at least theoretically possible.

This is what we think of Samsung’s current folding cell phones:

Galaxy Z Flip 5: presentation in July?

Samsung could be Galaxy Z Flip 5 present at the next Unpacked event, which is scheduled to take place at the end of July 2023. In addition to the new flip phone, the group should then also present the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Both folding smartphones will probably be delivered with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1. The predecessors came onto the market in August 2022.

At the same event, Samsung is also likely to launch Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches and Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets.
