Samsung is currently sending out the Android 12L update for its Galaxy Tab S8 series of tablets. Users get a lot of useful features for multitasking and Android’s interface is also better adapted for larger screens.

An important update is ready for Samsung’s premium tablets: the Galaxy Tab S8, the Tab S8 Plus and finally Tab S8 Ultra with its 14.6 inch screen. Samsung is updating the devices to version 4.1.1 of One UI that is based on Android 12L, Sammobile knows. This version of Android was already proposed by Google this spring and it is specifically aimed at tablets and foldable phones.

New is, for example, the taskbar that remains at the bottom of the screen. From there you can easily drag apps on the screen to open them side by side in split-screen. We tested this feature extensively with our review of the new Galaxy Z Fold 4. You can pin apps that you often use together as an app pair so that you can open the taskbar with one tap the next time.

Other improvements in One UI 4.1.1

You can discover all the features of Android 12L in this overview. We also list here some more improvements that Samsung has added in its One UI 4.1.1 shell:

  • There is a new gesture to open apps in split screen. You swipe from the side to the center with two fingers
  • App names can now be displayed in the Edge window
  • The Tab S8 recognizes text in images. You can then translate, copy or share it. This doesn’t work for Dutch yet
  • You can set a different wallpaper for each contact that is visible in the interface while calling
  • There are more stickers and emoji in Samsung Keyboard
  • You can rearrange favorites in Samsung Internet favorites by dragging them
  • In the new My filesapp, the search function can also search the contents of files. Now include a phone number in one of your text documents
  • you can in My files also filter and sort files based on your search results

Availability

At the moment, Android 12L only works on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The update for the Galaxy Tab S8 series should arrive on your tablet in the coming days and weeks. You can also manually check if the update is already available. You do that with Settings -> Software Update -> Download and Install.

The improvements of Android 12L and even more novelties are also part of Android 13, the update that Google proposed in August. Like all other manufacturers, Samsung also wants to roll out this version to its devices. It will be the first to come to the Galaxy S22 series, starting from October 17 if we are to believe the rumors.
