Samsung Galaxy S21 features astro photo in Expert RAW app
We know it from the Samsung Galaxy S22 range, but it now makes its appearance in the generation before. Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra now also have access to astrophotography. This allows you to take great star photos with a slow shutter speed. It’s available within the Korean phone maker’s Expert RAW app.

Astrophotography
The new feature was expected in the One UI 5.1 update, but it didn’t materialize. Fortunately, it is now still available through an update of the Expert RAW app. It concerns the update from April 2023 and it has only appeared for Galaxy S21 devices. In the two videos below you can see roughly what to expect from this feature, plus how best to use it (read: use a tripod).
If you do it right, you can even see entire constellations in the photo: the app can even tell you the locations of those constellations, so you can position your phone exactly so that you capture those exact constellations. Of course it depends on what the circumstances are, because it will not work on a foggy evening. However, if you have a nice clear sky above you and not too much light around you, then you have a good chance that you can now take beautiful pictures of the starry sky with your Samsung Galaxy S21.

If you also want to use it, download the most recent version of the Expert RAW app on your Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+ or S21 Ultra. Don’t have an S21, but an older device and do you also want to take these kinds of photos? Then have a little patience. Samsung plans to release this feature on Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Fold as well.
