Apping behind the wheel will result in a much higher fine

A new decision in the Council of Ministers ensures that various traffic fines will change in price. You will soon have to dig a lot deeper into your pouch for texting behind the wheel. For other ‘offenses’ the amount of the fine will decrease somewhat.

Higher (and lower) traffic fines

The amounts of fines for traffic violations is going to change in some areas. The Council of Ministers has decided that some amounts will be increased and a number of minor violations in price will be reduced. The ANWB previously indicated that it wants the amount of the fine to return the risk of the violation to road safety. According to Ferd Grapperhaus of Justice and Security, a higher penalty should improve road safety. The minor offenses that are fined less severely must ensure that the support base in society is increased.

It is clear that the fine for using the mobile phone in traffic will be much higher. Now you pay 240 euros, that will be 340 euros. Driving unnecessarily on the left and transporting a minor without a seat belt will both go to 210 euros, whereas now it still costs 140 euros. Not giving priority to emergency services with a siren will also go to 340 euros (now 240 euros). The amount will also increase for a number of traffic fines.

The amount of fines for minor violations will be reduced. This includes speeding offenses up to 10 kilometers per hour on the motorway. Unjustified parking in a disabled place will now cost you 300 euros, instead of 390 euros.

First, the adjusted fines will be presented to the Lower House. Then we will also be informed when the changes will be implemented.
