Samsung Galaxy S21 FE launch near, name pops up in stores

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE may have been one of the most successful phones launched by the South Korean company in 2020. Despite persistent chip shortages, Samsung wants to maintain its success by launching a successor, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. A near launch of the S21 FE seems assured – the name of the device has surfaced in American stores.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

If you want to get the high-end Samsung experience at home for a smaller budget, you can go to the Fan Edition (FE) series from Samsung. The company first introduced the series with the Galaxy S20 FE, a successor to the Galaxy S10 Lite. After Samsung decided to scrap the Galaxy Note 21 to cope with persistent chip shortages, uncertainty arose about the launch of the S21 FE. The rumor mill spoke earlier about an end of the model series. This was later debunked – several documents from Samsung, including a recent one about YouTube Premium, have since confirmed the phone’s existence. The device also appeared in the Play Console.

‘Appears in stores’

In addition to the various digital references to the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, this time there is also physical evidence for the existence – and possibly a near launch – of the Fan Edition device. A photo of Max Weinbach, a usually reliable source of rumours, shows the “Galaxy S21 FE 5G” name in a demo area of a supposedly American (electronics) store. Above the Galaxy S21 FE sticker is another demo of the Galaxy S20 FE, so it appears that the phone was not yet on display to customers at that time.

Further information about the device is therefore not yet available. So is the phone’s launch date. Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE was introduced on September 23. Since the stickers have already been mounted in an electronics store, a near launch is possible. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, the store could have received the stickers early in the run-up to launch, and put them on too early. SamMobile expects the phone to be released in the fourth quarter.

Leaked details S21 FE

Although the launch is still pending, many details about the phone have already leaked. Under the hood, the phone is expected to feature a Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. How much storage memory the phone will have on board has not yet been leaked. It is known that the Galaxy S21 FE will have a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and that the selfie camera in its Infinity O notch will have a 32 MP resolution. On the back are three cameras, each with a 12 MP resolution.

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will look a lot like the regular Galaxy S21, which is apparent from previously published renders of the phone. As on the S21, the camera module on the back of the S21 FE will blend into the frame. Unlike the high-end Galaxy S21, the ‘Fan Edition’ will have to make do with the same color for the camera module and the frame. In addition, Samsung will probably use a plastic back, as opposed to the glass back on Samsung’s S21+ and S21 Ultra.

No details are yet known about the prices of the phone. Earlier it came out that Samsung wants to offer the phone at a lower price point than its predecessor – which received a suggested retail price of 750 euros. Whether the phone will actually get a lower price and whether this will apply to the Netherlands and Belgium, remains to be seen after the launch. Are you already anxiously waiting for the phone?
