Samsung copied the iPhone with its Galaxy according to an Apple executive
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing manager, assures that Samsung has copied the iPhone with its Galaxy smartphones. He makes this statement in a documentary from wall street journal which is dedicated to the iPhone, knowing that the smartphone is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Apple assures it: Samsung copied the iPhone
Part of the documentary focuses on Android smartphones and the fact that they have adopted large screens faster compared to Apple. Greg Joswiak was asked about the influence of Samsung and other Android smartphone makers on Apple at the time, and the official admits they were ” boring “ and accused them of miscopying Apple’s technology.
“They were boring”says Greg Joswiak. “And they were annoying because, as you know, they stole our technology. They took the innovations that we had created and made a poor copy of them, and just put a bigger screen around it. So, yes, we were not very happy”.
The first iPhone to experience a change in screen size was the iPhone 5 with its 4-inch panel, compared to 3.5 inches previously. At Samsung, the Galaxy S4 had a 5-inch screen. Later, Apple launched iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with 4.7 and 5.5 inch screens respectively. It turns out that public demand has been strong, so much so that the iPhone 6 remains Apple’s best-selling iPhone line for now.
As a reminder, there was a very long lawsuit between Apple and Samsung. The former accused the latter of having copied his design. The case dragged on for years in court. Apple was originally awarded around $1 billion in damages, but the amount was scaled back in a later retrial. In 2018, Apple finally reached an agreement with Samsung.
