Samsung cleans up: These cell phones are dumped

Samsung supplies its smartphones and tablets with software updates for a very long time, but at some point it has to end. Older models in particular are currently on the hit list. These are not covered by the five-year update guarantee. Three well-known smartphones were sorted out by Samsung. But there is still a glimmer of hope.

The older Samsung smartphones are, the greater the likelihood that they will no longer be supplied with software updates at some point. This month it happened again. Samsung says goodbye to the following smartphones:

All three mid-range phones were presented in early 2019 and introduced to the market. After a little over four years, they no longer receive regular software updates. Nevertheless, the supply of the older mobile phones with more than four years is already significantly more than expected. Even if Samsung has said goodbye to the three Galaxy smartphones, there is still a chance that there will be a software update every now and then. This is especially the case when certain models are still used by many people and major security gaps appear. For example, Samsung has released updates for the ancient Galaxy S6 in the past, even though it was phased out years ago.

If you have a very old cell phone and use security-related apps such as online banking, then it’s time for a new cell phone. You shouldn’t take any unnecessary risks since security holes can be exploited so easily.
