Samsung changes update policy for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10 series

Samsung has made changes to the update policy for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10. All devices in this series receive updates less often than has been done until now. We have listed the changes for you.

Change in updates for Galaxy S9 and S10

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10 series will receive fewer updates than has happened so far. Samsung has made changes to the update schedule for the devices. The S9 series concerns the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. The Galaxy S10 includes the Samsung Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S10+ and the Galaxy S10e.

Galaxy S9

First of all, the Galaxy S9 series. This series recently got a brand new update, but for now that is the last update. In principle, Samsung no longer rolls out updates for the smartphone series that was released in 2018. The updates stop four years after the date. However, in case of critical vulnerabilities, the update machine will still be thrown.

Galaxy S10

The three models in the Galaxy S10 series, which were all released in 2019, will still receive updates. Instead of a monthly cycle, this changes to a once every three months cycle. As it stands now, the Galaxy S10 series is in its final year of getting the phone updates. This means that an update will be rolled out every quarter for another year for the Samsung Galaxy S10. The phone was recently updated with the March security update.

In February, Samsung announced that new and previous models from the manufacturer can count on updates for five years. The brand also promises four Android updates.
