Samsung admits this major problem with S23 series and comes up with a solution

Samsung admits that the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in 200 MP mode suffers from shutter lag, or shutter lag. As a result, photos are often not taken immediately when you press the shutter button. The problem also seems to play on other devices from the S23 series. The South Korean manufacturer says it will come up with a solution.

Shutter lag

The moment you press the shutter button you want the photo to be taken immediately. With the S23 Ultra, however, this often does not seem to happen. This problem mainly occurs when you use 200 MP mode. When you press the shutter button in that mode, it takes quite a few milliseconds before the photo is actually taken. This sounds like very little, but it can be the difference between just being or not being in the picture. Think of objects that move quickly that you want to include in the photo immediately when you press the shutter button. The well-known YouTuber Marques Brownlee, among others, already noticed the problem in his preview of the S23 series and other users are now also reporting the problem.

Is there a solution?

Samsung reports that they are releasing an updated version of the Camera Assistant app for the S23 series that should fix the issue. It is now possible in the app to determine how quickly the photo should be taken. Sammobile reports. For this you can, among other things, prioritize quality or speed. If you were to opt for speed here, the shutter lag problem should be solved according to Samsung. However, due to the shorter shutter speed, the photos may be of less quality. This is because you give the smartphone less time to let light fall on the sensor.

So the problem is solved, but not really in the way you would like it. You want no shutter lag and no loss of quality. iPhones have been showing this for years, Samsung smartphones in general suffer from this more. Perhaps Samsung will come up with a better solution in an update later.
