Review of Mario Party Superstars -apkrig

The Mario Party series is one of Nintendo’s traditional, popular and highly branched spin-offs. It has been published since 1998 and made its debut for the N64, and several different studies have taken turns on it. The latest episodes are the Japanese NDcube team, which belongs to Nintendo and was founded by former Hudson Soft employees, who started the Mario Party. The twelfth big episode and the second at Switch after the 2018 Super Mario Party is largely based on nostalgia. It comes with five older game plans, modern graphics and an incredible hundred classic minigames. But does generous range mean generous fun?

First of all, it is necessary to emphasize that the word Party is not in the name just for nothing. This series is great if you have someone to play with. And in the case of Mario Party Superstars, it doesn’t really matter if you play on one console and one screen, connect with other players locally or via online multiplayer, for which, however, it has also been necessary to pay on Switch as for other platforms. I’m not saying that you can’t enjoy a Mario party in a single, but it’s a lot of fun to learn, the course of which will be quite affected by what you reach for. In my opinion, playing classic board modes against a computer is not very interesting, because it simply lacks that human dimension. On the so-called mountain of mini-games, you can already enjoy accompanied by artificial intelligence, but you can’t expect it to be the same as with friends on one couch. The WarioWare series thinks more of the individual.

In some mini-games, everyone competes against everyone, others divide you into two teams of two, or one plays against three collaborators.

We have completed this necessary formality and it is possible to start the game. You will be greeted by a slightly tacky basic menu with several places that represent the individual modes. Basically, I only know two types of people. Some prefer more complex boards combined with mini-games, where they roll the dice, travel the plan, step on and bonus and penalty boxes, collect money and stars, and strive for victory similar to table games. With the important difference that after each round there is a break in bread in the form of one of the minigames. Personally, I prefer the mini-games themselves at a frantic pace, which will allow you to spend a smaller (but still much larger) amount of time with the game, because the “board” can be quite time consuming.

One hundred mini-games will definitely last you for some time and it will take a few hours before you try all of them at least once. You can play any of them and they are all available from the very beginning. It’s up to you how long you hold your series before you cut it. After each round, you have the option to jump out, or choose or have another mini-game drawn. After all, they are divided into several categories. In some, everyone competes against everyone, others divide you into two teams of two, or one plays against three collaborators. In addition, individual mini-games can also be classified thematically, for example, for sports or the fight for coins.

It would be naive to assume and want this collection, although it should contain the best older minigames, to have a completely uniform level. After all, this cannot be achieved, because their evaluation is purely subjective. Everyone will evaluate the mini-game individually differently. But there is clearly strength in quantity, so you should have no problem choosing even in a demanding line-up of players. Even if you like some pieces more than others, once in a while you like to repeat almost everyone. In the end, he doesn’t really like the ones that just don’t work for him, rather than being downright bad.

On the other hand, I’m not ashamed to say that the reason why I prefer the mini-games themselves is, in addition to instant fun and time-saving, also the fact that big plans are sometimes unnecessarily recombined for me. The board version is definitely not heavy, but it is sometimes too complex, which slows down the pace. It’s not just Man, don’t be angry! in Nintendo’s presentation, and we actually need a lot of tactics and luck at the same time. Although I’m not the target audience, I can appreciate that the content doesn’t just run out. There might be more thematic plans, but as you probably already understand, that didn’t bother me. On the contrary, I can appreciate that a more time-consuming game can be interrupted at any time and returned to it.

After the super creative Super Mario Party, I’m extremely sorry that the developers have completely resigned themselves to the various conveniences of the Switch when it comes to control and gaming.

At times we bit into some criticism, now it’s time to stop running from her and face her. The graphics are quite nice and the traditional disciplines are nice to see. Somehow, however, this time I didn’t like the peculiar presentation presented by Nintendo, the individual menus and the pleasant introductions. The game of the party should be done away from the unnecessary dialogues, especially when you learn the essentials just before each discipline – that is, how to play and win the mini-game. Objectively, it seems to me that there are few characters to choose from and I don’t see a single reason for that. Given Nintendo’s rich history, I understand that others will increase over time. On the contrary, the authors have not been able to extract this archive very well in terms of the treasures that you unlock for the money you have saved. You basically collect banalities. And finally, shit on them.

However, my main comment basically concerns the concept itself. After the super creative Super Mario Party, I’m extremely sorry that the developers have completely resigned themselves to the various conveniences of the Switch when it comes to control and gaming. There is no support for motion control, you won’t basically use HD Rumble either, Mario Party Superstars doesn’t benefit from the unique hardware that Switch has. And now the question arises, why is that? In my opinion, the reason is obvious. When the Super Mario Party came on the market in 2018, there was no Switch Lite that could not be connected to a television or deprived of Joy-Con. You won’t enjoy the Super Mario Party on this device, and I think Nintendo clearly wanted to avoid it.

An honest but traditional cocktail

All mini-games rely solely on push-button and analog stick controls. The authors deserve praise for how they tuned the controls and that the game flawlessly supports Joy-Cony, Pro Controller and Switch Lite, but the price for that comes too high. After the previous tasting, I just didn’t want to be satisfied with just the traditional control scheme, when atypical controls can deepen your experience and contribute to the overall joy. But you can perceive it completely differently, and perhaps on the contrary, this classic and its versatility will suit you.

The result is still a very successful title, which, in my opinion, plays a lot and sometimes unnecessarily for sure. It is based on proven principles and relies on a valuable heritage. But I still lack something to reach for a higher grade. In such a branched long-term series, I lack more novelty and the courage to take risks. At the same time, I miss what the team has given up since the last episode. Mario Party Superstars is another hilarious piece in the collection, which the fan will not miss anyway, but for me it is not an absolute top from Nintendo, which I could unconditionally recommend to everyone.
