Remake Dead Space may contain elements from other parts -apkrig
Electronic Arts officially unveiled a speculated remake of the sci-fi horror film Dead Space yesterday, and although at first it seemed that many details would not be available, in the end we still saw more details. Producer Philippe Ducharme and creative director Roman Campos-Oriola from EA Motive revealed a number of interesting facts in an interview for IGN magazine.
The authors again emphasize that this is not just a slightly improved version, but a re-created title on the Frostbite engine from DICE, although of course they rely on the original. It’s not just about improving the graphics, sound and gameplay, but doing everything again with the fact that they even have access to the original level of design and see how it has changed in iterations, for example due to the technical limitations of the time.
Players should feel as if they don’t want to put down the controller at all and immerse themselves in the game so that they want to finish it in one go.
Motive says they want to take advantage of the latest PC hardware and the performance of new consoles, which makes the experience even deeper. From the beginning to the end, it will be one long uninterrupted interactive trip, which will do without loading and ecstasy. Players should feel as if they don’t want to put down the controller at all and immerse themselves in the game so that they want to finish it in one go.
Of course, the minimalist HUD will remain, which is an integral part of the game’s specific interface, but the authors believe that thanks to modern tools, it will capture even better the atmosphere of this universe, which has always fixed the player one hundred percent on what is happening around him. “What really mattered to us was capturing the unique look of Dead Space. A unique sci-fi look that is rough and dirty, and you feel that everything around you has been used for a long time, ”said Campos-Oriola.
Ducharme again explained that, of course, they first started working with the original assets to make sure that all the enhancements had DNA tags. However, it is alleged not just to add resolution and polygons, but to replicate the same feeling, albeit with the help of innovations such as volumetric effects and dynamic lighting.
According to the Motive developers, they approached the sound similarly sensitively. It should be an improved, but faithful original, authentic. The novelty is 3D audio, thanks to which we can better know where the sound is coming from, which, according to the team, is again something that will contribute to immersion in the game. In some respects, however, the creators may deliberately deviate from the one, they suggest. They also looked at what came after the first part in terms of playability and story.
One example of an improvement is the zero gravity sections from the second part that could be applied to the original.
Campos-Oriola says that the basis is the story of Dead Space 1, that’s the canon. But they want to incorporate some improvements into the story. He didn’t want to divulge the details, but he suggested that the entire studio looked at everything from what happened immediately after the second part, to animated films and more. They can incorporate some of it into the remake. Not because it wouldn’t work in number one, but because they have the opportunity to make some improvements and better connect the games.
It is said to concern not only the story, but also the functions and gameplay. Because some things have evolved in the series, and the authors are now investigating whether they can take some of the later games and project it into the first game. One example of such improvements may be the zero gravity sections from the second part that could be applied to the original. Campos-Oriola also indicated that they wanted to move the famous opportunity to deprive enemies of different body parts, which was an integral part of the combat strategy, where something slightly different applied to each opponent. The result should be reflected in the gameplay, but also the bloody.
New previously unavailable accessibility options will open the game to a wider audience. Even to people who haven’t been able to play it yet. So that there are different options and ways to enjoy the title. Ducharme also says that they learned from mistakes such as microtransactions, and we certainly won’t find anything like that in the Dead Space remake. According to Ducharme and Campos-Oriola, they are long-term fans of the series, and according to them, this applies to the entire team. The head of the studio, Patrick Klaus, directly caused the fact that they can do this project. His enthusiasm for Dead Space persuaded EA to give the remake the green light.
Motive, however, not only rely on the fans in the team, but also, as it was indicated yesterday, also on the community around the game, which is to help the project similarly to the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection. The developers say they did not want to close themselves in the bubble, so from the very beginning they put together some kind of community advice to help the team stay the course. This applies especially to those points where the authors plan to deviate and change something. Just so they don’t ruin the game.
The team admits that it’s a little scary to present your work on an ongoing basis, but Campos-Oriola emphasizes that this way you will discover things you would otherwise find out on Reddita two weeks after the release.
Developers can’t praise feedback. They are in contact with the fans once every two or three weeks to share ongoing progress. And the important thing is that it happens from the very beginning. Ducharme says that such feedback is usually given to the authors only when the game is almost done, but then it is no longer possible to change the things that players complain about. And yet the developers would do it differently. The team admits it’s a little scary to present your work like this on an ongoing basis, but Campos-Oriola emphasizes that this way you’ll uncover things you would otherwise find out on Reddit two weeks after the release. But it’s also an encouragement for the team, because when you can show something like this and get a good response right away, the developers are happy about it and it gives them a taste for further work.
The new Dead Space by Star Wars: Squadrons is aimed at the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Unfortunately, we do not yet know the approximate release date.
