Reforged is said to have buried ambitions and little money -apkrig

The continuation of the Warcraft strategy was for many years on the list of traditional wishes that players reminded of at every suitable occasion. With the launch of every BlizzCon, there was loud talk about whether it was ten year and if the time has finally come for the Roman numeral IV to be ascribed to Warcraft. However, nothing like this has happened so far and we guess that after the fiasco of the remaster of the third part with the subtitle Reforged, he will not want to go to that Blizzard, but especially to Activision. At the same time, the mentioned remaster was supposed to be a relief to the fans for the persistent wait and an ornate reminder of the popular third part, which was also famous for our unforgettable dubbing in our region. But that didn’t happen either, and accept an apology from us if we’re just twisting a knife in your wound. Warcraft III: Reforged simply failed, a remaster from a reputable company failed, was in many ways worse than the original game, received a very low rating on the Metacritic portal and was accompanied by strange decisions such as not delivering the promised content – especially new cutscenes and dubbing, or to avoid playing the original version. Who is to blame, you ask? That the developers from the now-dissolved internal studio Classic Games? Or is it all a leadership issue? Journalist Jason Schreier is trying to answer another of his extensive reports, addressing former and current Blizzard employees who, with the promise of anonymity, indicated what it was like back then.

Before summarizing the Bloomberg article, however, it should be noted that all reports of similar scope and focus are unofficial reports, operate on unsubstantiated information, and are unlikely to be commented on by anyone from Blizzard or Activision. Regardless of the credibility of Jason Schreier’s articles and the likelihood of what the addressed developers are talking about, we are constantly thinking that reality may be different. There will always be a possibility that the dismissed developers have decided to speak, and no doubt you also have a person around you who exaggerates a bit and paints things his way. Fairness and foresight are therefore more important than in the case of clearly verifiable facts, which, unfortunately, some forget when they treat this information irresponsibly and draw too definitive conclusions in this and other cases.

According to Schreier and the developers he addressed, the reason for the failure was the reluctance of Activision’s management to deal with a game that would most likely not bring in big money.

Warcraft III: Reforged was announced in 2018, and from the very beginning, high-ranking people, including President J. Allen Brack, attached great importance to it. Blizzard has promised to improve the game enough to surpass the original and closely link it with the Warcraft lor as it evolves in the immortal MMO. One of the important points on which the critics subsequently relied were the updated cutscenes – a total of more than four hours of films – which never happened. According to Schreier and the developers he addressed, the reason was the reluctance of Activision’s management to deal with a game that would most likely not bring in big money. Priority was given to unfinished titles such as Diablo IV or Overwatch 2, due to which, according to Schreier, Blizzard was to cancel some other projects, including a shooter from the world of StarCraft. And as you will admit, this is not exactly a good starting position for a small team that is trying to work with a well-known and player-loved game.

Nevertheless, the team had big plans in Classic Games and during 2017 and 2018 it really managed to come up with a new version of the script and re-engaged dialogues. The purpose was to refresh the game and better fit into the canon, which, of course, developed in the years after the release of the original game, and in retrospect, inaccuracies could appear here and there. For this purpose, the original designer of the game, David Fried, was to be invited to the team, at least briefly, and described the plans for the Reforged version as absolutely groundbreaking. But the combination of the alleged impossibility of deciding whether to remaster or remake, bold plans, study size and lack of experience should have resulted in concerns, according to Schreier, when developers quickly realized that remastering a three-dimensional strategy would be much more difficult than revitalizing. two-dimensional StarCraft. They found that it would take many months to rework a single level, and there were dozens of them in Warcraft III. Such a large amount of work would undoubtedly frighten even much more experienced and numerous studios, but for Classic Games it should not be a problem, according to manager Rob Bridenbecker. Schreier and his sources claim that the director of the studio was known for his aggressive approach and the promise of unfulfillable schedules, which did not help the situation at all and the team fell into a deep depression.

All responsibility and blame for this decision falls on the head of the parent company Activision, says the author of the original game David Freid.

To make matters worse for the troubled team, the entire company was hit by a massive layoff in February 2019 and the Classic Games were also affected. Former employees said that either insufficiently qualified or no one sat in leadership roles, and the structure of the study fell apart. At this point, therefore, instructions were to come, delete the planned elements along with the reworked scenario, and only in the simplest way to improve the graphics, as expected from the remaster. David Fried was to state in a statement for Schreier that all responsibility and blame for this decision falls on the head of the parent company Activision and expressed regret that the company is actively opposing the interests of the players. Even to that account, they do not believe that the departure of longtime Blizzard President Mike Morhaime – announced at BlizzCon in November 2018 – was a mere coincidence, although Morhaime never gave the exact reasons. In the case of the Reforged version of Warcraft III, however, the development took a very bad direction, which unfortunately the management of both companies should have realized too late.

So late that the players had already made pre-orders and were waiting for a title that would remind them how great a strategy Warcraft III was. And it was the money collected for pre-orders that was supposed to be another driving force, why speed up development as quickly as possible and not have to face the need to return money to players due to a possible postponement of the game. It’s paradoxical for Blizzard, considering how the company approached its games in the past and tried not to release anything that wasn’t ready for release. But no one wants to deal with the inconvenience with the players, and according to Bloomberg, all the free ends were closed quickly so that the game could work. However, the fact that Activision ultimately had to deal with refund requests cannot be left out, given that the players were unhappy with the result and it must be acknowledged that it was right. All the more striking is the unchanging state of the game 18 months after its launch and the reluctance of Activision or Blizzard to at least repair a tarnished reputation, even though the spokesman claims that a small team is still working on the game and trying to fix it. But until then, Warcraft III: Reforged remains a flaw in these companies’ game books, and there seems to be no effective way to fully redress the incident. But perhaps it will at least be a lesson for the management, who is responsible for the projects, because rather than oceanic due to the absence of financial perspective – which may be a completely legitimate demand – it is better not to spend anything.
