Recover Athletics helps your body recover

Science still doesn’t agree: is a warming up or cooling down after exercise good for your body or not? We do not judge that, but if, for example, you have an injury or have a chance of an injury, it is good to pay some extra attention to this area. That’s why Strava developed the Recover Athletics app, which we discuss in this edition of App of the Week.

Recover Athletics

Prehab: It’s not a word you come across often, but it means to prehabilitate. In short: ensure that you prepare your body for sporting activity in order to prevent injuries. After all, prevention is better than cure. You can certainly quickly get injured when running, because you put a lot of pressure on your joints and muscles with every step. But Recover Athletics is also very suitable for other sports.

You can link the app to your Strava account, where it recommends a personalized routine. However, you can also choose to choose certain exercises yourself. Many of those exercises are behind a paywall (at 7.99 euros per month), so you have to pay to use this app really well. What you get for it are those routines, possibly tailored to your Strava performance, and the possibility to enter which ‘grade’ you give your weak spot.

If your Achilles tendon really doesn’t feel like it today, score it a 4 and make sure you do exercises that fit well with it, if it’s more like an 8 today, then you might be able to do a slightly heavier exercise. The app advises you all kinds of things, so it’s best to listen to that (in addition to your own body, of course, because that is and remains the best advisor).

Furthermore, this app is quite simple: you can do exercises that have been developed together with real athletes and you can keep a kind of diary of how your body is doing. All with one goal: to ensure that your body can perform pain-free and optimally, when you need it most. Especially if you also have Strava, then Recover Athletics is an app for you. If you are a little less hardcore, you can certainly get some wise sports lessons from it, but you will have to pay a considerable amount per month for that.
