Recenze Psychonauts 2 » Vortex

The developers from the Double Fine studio have finally reached a goal called Psychonauts 2. We won’t lie to each other, this game was not born easily, but the result exceeded our expectations. If you played the first part, jump in twos will be natural, fast and very kind. Another portion of the story about Raz, his family, friends and superiors awaits you, which is not very elaborate, but its gradual unveiling in front of you will spread a refined mixture of ideas, humor and great moments. You go to the heads of all sorts of people with all sorts of desires, interests and defects, you fight against censors and, who knows, maybe some love is finally waiting for Raz. The combination of all the great aspects from number one goes on to an even higher level in the sequel, and you will have great fun playing. It is just necessary to add fairly that in terms of the technical level of graphics, the game lags slightly behind modern titles, and even fights with bosses or several bad jumps on a miniature platform will not bring you much satisfaction. But these are just small freckles on beauty, which do not pull Psychonauts 2 deep. You can find more in our video review.

  • Continuation of the story immediately after the end of the first part, resp. VR taps
  • Successful dubbing and variety of individual characters
  • Tim Schafer’s unmistakable style makes the game a truly unique affair
  • Extension of storylines by supporting characters and Raz’s family
  • Character development and unlocking other abilities, or improving them
  • Possibility to play even after the end and pick up all the items
  • The technical level of graphics may seem outdated
  • Occasional problems associated with the camera and the direction of the protagonist in a three-dimensional world
  • Fights with bosses are often too easy and break down the overall atmosphere a bit
  • Great musical accompaniment simply plays in the background, but it is not very dynamic
  • Control can be difficult, especially in hectic times when everything needs to be combined quickly

Despite minor mistakes, the continuation of Psychonauts amazed me. One has to tune in to the style of Double Fine studio and designer Tim Schafer, there is no doubt about that, but if you liked the original game from 2005, you will be thrilled with the sequel. You will embark on another very adventurous adventure, chat with many characters, solve old family wrongs and torment your head and fingers on many different levels. If it weren’t for a bit of groundbreaking control, flat boss fights and – hand on heart – a technically outdated level of graphics, it probably wouldn’t be, anything popularly said. Even so, it is an exceptional work and it will be extremely interesting to see if it can attract more in general than the first part.
