Reasons for termination in the first 100 days and how to proceed with classified ads

We hope you had a good day and now we want to give you some exciting information to take with you into the evening. t3n Daily is also available as a podcast and as a newsletter. Here are the topics of the day.

Reasons for termination in the first 100 days

In its Onboarding Reloaded study 2022, the applicant management software manufacturer Softgarten found out why 17.8 percent of the employees surveyed resigned within the first three months of their employment. In most cases, the main reason for this is an inadequate induction process. The so-called onboarding does not work particularly well remotely in many companies.

Another problem is when expectations from the application process are not met in actual everyday work. For most employees, the priority at first is to be officially introduced to the team during the integration process, to receive a concrete induction plan and to find a fully equipped workplace.

The study also shows how much the labor market has now changed into a candidate:internal market. Employers now also have to meet the requirements of applicants, not just the other way around.

Classifieds from now on without Ebay

As of today, classifieds.de officially separates from Ebay. The reason for this is the sale of Ebay Classifieds to the Adventina Group. However, customers do not need to reinstall the app or register again. Overall, everything should remain the same, but with many improvements and innovations in the future.

As classifieds CEO Paul Heimann reveals in the t3n interview, classifieds are now trying to cater to the needs of commercial customers in particular: “Our current approach is to further expand this part by understanding what these customers need, to continue to grow and benefit from the platform. Our goal is to offer commercial customers the right services for them and to grow together with them. As a used goods dealer platform, Ebay will in future compete with classified ads.

Norwegian company plans wind turbine wall

The Norwegian company Wind Catching Systems intends to use an offshore wind turbine system at the height of the Eiffel Tower to produce electricity particularly effectively in the future. The 300 meter wide and 350 meter high wall, which consists of 126 turbines, is said to be able to convert five times as much energy as a conventional wind turbine, while taking up significantly less space in the sea. Such a construction could supply 80,000 households.

However, the plans are still purely theoretical. A pilot model is scheduled to be launched this year, but it is not yet certain whether it will actually go that far. The company’s goal is to put the first wind wall into operation in 2027.

Fraud investigations against Apple

The Paris public prosecutor’s office is investigating the tech group Apple. This was preceded by a complaint from a French consumer protection organization. The accusation: Apple is said to intentionally ensure that iPhones break after a certain period of time and deliberately sabotage the repair of the devices in third-party workshops. The smartphone manufacturer allegedly links the serial number of the devices with all the hardware installed in them. No other spare parts can then be used for repairs. According to the allegations, Apple can even damage iPhones from afar.

The company had already had to pay a hefty fine in 2018 for throttling the performance of older smartphones to boost sales of new devices. Apple has not yet commented on the new allegations.

Google employees scoff at AI obsession

Google employees allegedly made a drinking game out of their bosses’ AI obsession at the I/O conference. Whenever a manager uttered the word “AI” during presentations, employees reportedly drank a schnapps. The buzzword came up so often that they couldn’t keep up with drinking.

In general, the extreme focus on the topic of artificial intelligence in the tech world is now causing a lot of ridicule in the form of memes and clips. On Tiktok, for example, a compilation is circulating of how Google CEO Sundar Pichai pronounces the word “AI” countless times in his presentation. The malice is likely to reflect employee dissatisfaction with the fact that Pichai recently received a $200 million stock award despite downsizing and cost cutting at the company.
