Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 brings 5G even for the cheapest smartphones
American chip manufacturer Qualcomm last month introduced the Snapdragon 888 chipset, which will be designed for this year’s flagship smartphones. But he also thinks of the cheapest models that use his Snapdragon 400 series chipsets. According to the portal TheVerge is their newest member Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 the first 5G chipset for the lowest price category of smartphones.
5G support and double performance increase
Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 was announced at last year’s September IFA 2020 conference in Berlin. It wasn’t until this week that we had an official performance with all the important parameters of the chipset. The most important parameter is the integrated 5G modem Snapdragon X51 with support for mmWave and sub-6 GHz network.
There is also Qualcomm FastConnect 6200 technology, which allows 2 × 2 Wi-Fi connection using dual antennas. Of course, there is also the latest wireless connection Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 interface for connection to smart electronics.
Snapdragon 480 should also provide a significant improvement in performance. Compared to the previous generation of this chipset, the performance of the CPU and GPU should be up to twice. In the case of artificial intelligence (AI), there should be a 70% increase in performance. The chipset is manufactured by an 8nm manufacturing process and its processor is composed of Qualcomm Kryo 460 cores. The graphics core is the Qualcomm Adreno 619 and the artificial intelligence algorithms are taken care of by the Qualcomm Hexagon 686 chip.
Faster charging and also better image quality
Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 Plus support is sure to please. Slow charging was one of the disadvantages of cheap smartphones that the Snapdragon 480 should use. Thanks to it, they will also be able to be equipped with displays with FHD + resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
The Qualcomm Spectra 345 ISP chip (image processor) allows low-cost smartphones to use a camera with a maximum resolution of 64 megapixels or with up to three photo sensors. You will even be able to create three photos at a time. Qualcomm aptX audio technology is supposed to provide better sound.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 will contribute to the 5G expansion
The first smartphones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset should appear on the market in the coming months. The chipset is expected to accelerate the spread of 5G technology in smartphones and reach emerging markets. Cheap models still make up the largest share of Android smartphones sold.
