We all have certain websites that we often surf to. Did you know that it is possible to package a shortcut in an app icon on the home screen of your iPhone? In this article we explain how to set up your favorite website as an app.

Shortcut to website as app on your iPhone home screen

It’s hugely annoying; typing those keywords every time to go to your favorite website on Safari. This could be easier! With one click on an app you can already directly reach this website! It is possible to place a shortcut on the home screen of your iPhone that will take you directly to the homepage of your favorite website.

Unfortunately it is only possible to do this in Safari. Unfortunately, other browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox do not support this function (yet). Follow the steps below to find out how to create these app icons on your iPhone.

Put on Home screen website

Step-by-step plan shortcut to site on home screen

  • In Safari, open the page you want to quickly surf to. Let’s take iPhoned.nl as an example;
  • Tap the Share icon in the bottom center bar. This is the square with the arrow pointing up;
  • Scroll down and tap ‘Add to Home Screen’. You can see these options in the image below;
  • If you think the name doesn’t fit nicely under an app icon, you can change it;
  • Finally, tap ‘Add’. This option is then in the top right corner in blue and underlined.

Voila! The website’s app is on your iPhone home screen! By the way, this view is not the same as the lock screen. You will see this when you turn on the device. The Home screen is where you select your apps. Creating this website as an app on the home screen works exactly the same if you perform the steps on your iPad instead of your iPhone.

In this specific example it is not necessary at all to make an app from iPhoned.nl. We already have a very nice app, which you can navigate better in than on Safari. Download the iPhoned.nl app or otherwise stay informed of all Apple tips via our newsletter.
