PS5 is selling even better than expected

Sony breaks records again. A proud 6.3 million PS5 consoles could be sold in the last quarter alone, that’s from the current quarterly business reports of the company out. PS5: Console sales are rising, games are falling

While Sony is able to post a decent plus on the console hardware side, things are quite different when it comes to games sales. 68 million games could still be sold in the last quarter, in the previous year it was 70.5 million. This also affects the overall sales figures for the financial year. In the fiscal year 2022 there were 264.2 million, in 2021, however, 303.2 million sales were recorded.

Sony should still be happy about the increased console sales figures. After all, the PS5 is the only console that has grown significantly compared to last year. The Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch sold worse in direct comparison to the previous year’s figures. However, with the Nintendo Switch, this is mainly due to the fact that the console is now has been on the market for over 6 years.

For 6 years now, Switch players have been wishing that Nintendo finally addresses the following 6 criticisms:

With the Xbox Series, on the other hand, two factors could play a role. Experience has shown that Microsoft consoles sell less well than their Sony counterparts. In addition, the Xbox bottleneck had already been overcome last year, while the PS5 was still regularly sold out at the time and Sony couldn’t keep up with the production. That spell is now broken though, so it’s no surprise that the PS5 is selling better than last year.
