Proximus is also going to pull the plug on the Belgian 3G network

After several other providers in Belgium, Proximus has now also announced changes to the network. In a few years, the 3G network will no longer be supported by the provider.

Proximus discontinues 3G network

The Belgian provider Proximus has announced that it will stop supporting the 3G network by the end of 2024. The same decision was previously taken by the Belgian providers Telenet/Base and Orange. Telenet/Base will stop 3G in September 2024, Orange from mid-2023, with the plug finally pulled in 2025.

Until the end of 2024, the 3G network will simply be maintained and maintained, but after that it will be removed, as is clear from the message from the provider. The provider makes this choice because more and more people have a device that can handle 4G and/or 5G. Proximus wants to use the freed-up bandwidth to improve these two network bands. According to Proximus, 3G accounts for only 2 percent of data usage today.

Proximus wants to collect and recycle as many 3G devices as possible in the near future and beyond. In the Netherlands, various providers have already released information about switching off the 2G or 3G network. KPN, among others, is stopping 3G.
