Update for Private Relay in iOS 16

There are several rumors that Apple is planning to bring some new features to Private Relay in iOS 16. At the moment, the feature only works in Safari and some parts of Mail if you have iCloud Plus.

Apple is rumored to be expanding the feature to other apps in the future. It would soon be possible to browse the internet anonymously via the Chrome app or YouTube app on your iPhone.

Private transfer: VPN or not

Private Relay was released in iOS 15. This hides your IP address and allows you to browse the internet anonymously. Private retransmission is often compared to a VPN (Virtual Private Network). That is only partly right. A VPN anonymizes all your internet traffic. Private Relay doesn’t do that. So at the moment it only works if you use Apple’s own Safari. When you browse the web in another browser, your activity is still visible.

You have to turn Private Relay on yourself, because the function is turned off by default. Note: When using the free iCloud version with 5GB of storage, you cannot use Private Relay. You need a paid subscription with 50GB, 200GB or 2TB storage space.
