Podcast offensive: Amazon buys Wondery

Amazon has announced that it is in the midst of acquiring the podcast network Wondery. Wondery is known for podcasts like “Dirty John” and “Dr. Death. ”

Amazon is stepping up its podcast efforts. With the podcast network Wondery, which was only founded in 2016 takes over the e-commerce giant is the fourth largest podcast provider in the United States.

Wondery becomes part of Amazon Music

Wondery is to become part of Amazon Music. The streaming service was only expanded to include a podcast section last September.

Meanwhile, Amazon assures that nothing will change for existing listeners. The Wondery podcasts are apparently not intended to move exclusively to Amazon Music, but rather to continue to be heard through “a large number of providers”.

Other providers are significantly further

Amazon did not reveal the financial details of the takeover. A report from Wall Street Journal according to a sum of around 300 million US dollars is on the negotiating table. So far, Wondery has been funded through venture capital. The company has received a total of $ 15 million so far. In the United States, more than nine million people listened to a Wondery podcast in November.
