Wondery becomes part of Amazon Music
Wondery is to become part of Amazon Music. The streaming service was only expanded to include a podcast section last September.
Meanwhile, Amazon assures that nothing will change for existing listeners. The Wondery podcasts are apparently not intended to move exclusively to Amazon Music, but rather to continue to be heard through “a large number of providers”.
Amazon names podcasts in the same breath as the Twitch integration and the HD version of the music service. With this media breadth, Amazon wants to become the first address for content creators.
Other providers are significantly further
Relatively late, Amazon enters this market, which experts believe has great future potential. Accordingly, media houses and streaming providers are trying to strengthen themselves in this area. Right at the fore is Spotify, which has acquired a number of podcasters over the past two years.
Amazon did not reveal the financial details of the takeover. A report from Wall Street Journal according to a sum of around 300 million US dollars is on the negotiating table. So far, Wondery has been funded through venture capital. The company has received a total of $ 15 million so far. In the United States, more than nine million people listened to a Wondery podcast in November.
