Play Store shows how apps rise or fall in popularity

Google’s application store will now give you more information about the popularity of apps. You can now see on the basis of new icons when apps rise or fall in popularity.

Popularity apps

From now on, Google shows with an icon whether the popularity of an app is increasing or decreasing. You can go to the ‘Games’ or ‘Apps’ section in Google’s application store and then to ‘Most Popular Items’ to see an overview of the most popular games and apps. You will then see the new icons under the ranking of apps. For example, Google indicates whether the apps or games win or lose positions in that ranking, Android Police knows that.

For the time being, there is no more information about the new icons. You cannot see how quickly an app rises or falls in popularity. For example, Google could show a number for the rising or falling icon to indicate how many positions an app wins or loses. In addition, we also don’t know how often Google measures popularity to reflect changes in the rankings.

Popularity by category

Another feature that is still missing is the possibility to see the changes per app or game category. Suppose you are looking for a new music player app, then you could see in the category ‘Music and audio’ which apps are growing in popularity. That way it can help you make a choice and test an app.
