Participants enjoy sleep in zero gravity

It won’t be long before the 24th Olympic Winter Games start in China’s capital Beijing. So far, the event has been the subject of controversy, precisely because the People’s Republic does not take human rights so seriously in some places. The result was an announced political boycott by various nations.

But what about the games in Beijing at the moment? We already told you about the official app of the event, which doesn’t exactly meet a safety standard, today we want to look at something nicer, namely the sleep of the participants.

Because if you want to demonstrate athletic performance during the day, you need a good and restful night. Summer Britcher, who competes for the US luge team, has now given her first glimpse into the Olympians’ bedrooms. And there is more than one could wish for.

In 2021, the furnishings embodied more sustainability, back then Tokyo had beds made from recycled components, this year it’s all about recreation. Because the beds in the participants’ rooms control something that can be described as “zero attraction mode”.

There is a remote control attached to each bed frame that identifies a 0G mode. Once pressed, the mattress adapts to the lying person, the pressure on the muscles is reduced and the sleep seeker is said to quickly slip into peaceful dreams. That seems to work too, Britcher just says “I’m in 0G mode now. It’s phenomenal.”

But journalists who report on the games can also be won over by the new beds. There are small sleeping cabins around the venue where everyone can find some rest in between. Maybe one day we will see the technology in this country too, many people in Germany have so far been looking for a restful sleep in vain.
