OPPO MariSilicon X is a 6 nm NPU processor with AI support for image processing

Another smartphone manufacturer that introduces its own chipset is OPPO. OPPO MariSilicon X is its first Neural Processing Unit (NPU) image processor. It will be commercially available with the Find X series in the first quarter of 2022.

OPPO MariSilicon X uses a powerful ISP processor and RGBW Pro mode

Made with 6 nm manufacturing technology, MariSilicon X combines an advanced NPU, ISP (Image Signal Processor) and a multi-level memory architecture. Its focus is mainly on image processing, which is useful when taking photos and videos. According to the manufacturer, it offers best-in-class energy efficiency, real-time RAW data processing and Enhanced RGBW Pro mode.

It allows you to create high-quality night videos in 4K resolution, with a live preview of artificial intelligence enhancements. A powerful ISP (Image Signal Processor) will take care of this, which can capture images with a 20-bit and 120 db dynamic range. As a result, images have a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 between the lightest and darkest areas of the image, which better preserves image fidelity.

With Dual Image Pipeline design and double raw image oversampling, MariSilicon X unleashes the full potential of the OPPO RGBW sensor: Supports separation and blending of RGB and white signals and provides 8.6 dB signal-to-noise improvement and 1.7-fold texture quality improvement. which makes photos and videos more expressive.

High performance with low energy consumption

MariSilicon X’s performance reaches 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS), which is more than enough computing power to support artificial intelligence algorithms. With an energy efficiency of 11.6 TOPS per watt, the NPU provides peak performance without significantly draining the battery. MariSilicon X has dedicated DDR memory with additional bandwidth up to 8.5 GB / s.

The multi-level memory architecture minimizes delays and reduces power consumption caused by unnecessary repetitive read and write cycles. The new NPU is also equipped with a dedicated tera-bps memory subsystem, which allows you to take full advantage of the NPU’s computing power at all times without being limited by memory, which significantly reduces the time required to copy data between storage and computing units.
