Only this one parcel service is really good

Stiftung Warentest took a close look at well-known parcel services. In a comparison between DHL, DPD, Hermes, GLS, UPS and Amazon, the service providers performed very differently. In the end, only one was rated “good”.

Testers from Stiftung Warentest took a closer look at the largest parcel services operating in Germany. was examined both sending and receiving packages. Since Amazon only delivers, the final quality judgment is missing here.

With the grade “good (2.2)” has DHL took first place saved in the ranking. All others were rated “satisfactory” or even just “sufficient”. DHL scored above all as a sender, while DPD was able to win on the recipient side. No other parcel service has received a good rating for delivery.

On the other hand have GLS and UPS compare poorly cut off. The product testers only rated sending and receiving as “sufficient (3.6)”. One in ten packages from UPS and two out of ten packages from GLS arrived damaged at the recipient. There were no packages with damaged content from the other service providers. A total of 60 packages were part of the investigation.

The testers noticed GLS negatively, where on one Damage report by mail simply not responded became. In the case of the second damaged package, GLS merely referred to the sender as the contractual partner.

Hermes has established itself as the cheapest provider in two of the three packet sizes tested. Sometimes you have to pay less with DHL. For larger packages, UPS has proven to be the most expensive package service.
