OnePlus 2.0: There will be no OnePlus 9T

OnePlus announces a new strategy with the arrival of OxygenOS and ColorOS 12. That also means that OnePlus’ ‘T models’, including what should have been the upcoming OnePlus 9T, are no longer going to happen.

We need to talk about OnePlus for a moment. You know, the brand of just about the first real ‘flagship killer’. That time is more or less behind us, because OnePlus now also makes flagships that come with a hefty price tag. The OnePlus 9 is the OnePlus, but you also have the Nord, for example.

T-models

However, there is a tradition when it comes to the flagships. There is always a new number at the beginning of the year, in the case of 2021 the OnePlus 9. Later in the year, around where we are now, there will be a new flagship that does everything just a little bit better. It is always called the number with a T attached, so for this year OnePlus 9T. This is inspired by Apple and their minor changes to the iPhone that were commonly called ‘S’.

No 9T

That will be different from now on. Pete Lau puts a message on the OnePlus website explaining what is going to happen. He calls it ‘OnePlus 2.0’, where everything will happen in a new way. One of those new things is that a new flagship is coming for 2022. That’s nothing strange, that will most likely be the OnePlus 10. The OnePlus 10 will be the showpiece for the new OS from OnePlus: OxygenOS 12. Since the OnePlus 10 is the first. next big new OnePlus, that means quite simply that the OnePlus 9T will be skipped and perhaps the T models will be banned forever. Not surprising, annual releases from other manufacturers always go annually and not semi-annually.

Line up

We just talked about the models of OnePlus next to the 9 and 9T, but they will look like the one below. In addition to the flagships, there will also be a double series of Nord devices, a middle class that will be called R Series and the dirt-cheap Nord N range.

We’ll see in 2022. (via OnePlus)
