on this day is WWDC 2022

Curious about what big features are coming to the iPhone this year? Apple will unveil them at WWDC 2022, an event showcasing the latest operating systems. And Apple has just announced the final date of that.

Read on after the ad.

Date iOS 16 event

Apple confirms that the keynote for the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) will start on Monday, June 6, at 7:00 PM CET. As of this writing, Apple is unveiling its latest operating systems, including iOS 16, iPadOS 17, macOS 13, and watchOS 9.

As with other Apple events, you can watch WWDC 2022 live. This can be done, for example, on Apple’s YouTube channel, where a live stream is broadcast. The conference can also be viewed on Apple’s Event page, or via Apple TV.

Again, this is a virtual event, so there will be no live audience. What we get to see is a slick video production, which has been pre-recorded. In it, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his associates unveil the new operating systems.

The WWDC is a conference for developers, so the focus is on software. But it wouldn’t be the first time that Apple seizes the moment to also unveil new products. In an article about the WWDC 2022 expectations you can read what hardware Apple may come up with. One candidate, for example, is the new MacBook Air.

Invitation

The invitation Apple sent out to WWDC shows a row of rainbow-colored Memojis, with the words “Swiftly approaching” below them. This may be an indication that Apple is revealing something about the new VR headset, which the company is said to be launching at the end of this year.

According to rumors, the VR glasses can handle Memoji. These are personalized emojis that mimic your facial expressions in real time. The iPhone can do this too, but the headset would have 14 (!) cameras that follow the user’s face. This should ensure that the Memoji displays the expressions and mouth movements very accurately.

Release iOS 16

The new functions of iOS 16 and the other operating systems will therefore be known on June 6. Unfortunately, the software cannot be installed right away; first everything is thoroughly tested with betas (test versions). The operating systems are expected to be available for download in September.
