all apps in the Play Store must be downloadable throughout the EU

Applications that are in the Google Play Store are not always available for download in every country. That’s going to kind of change. This is under pressure from the European Union, which has made a case for this.

Apps in the EU

Under pressure from regulators from various countries in the European Union, Google has announced changes to the Google Play Store. Applications available in the EU should also be downloadable throughout the European Union. This is not yet the case, because developers can choose to apply a geoblock, which means that, for example, a service from Sweden cannot be downloaded in the Netherlands.

Google says it is making concessions; with Google taking the next step. The application cannot simply be installed with a download button, but instead Google gives you instructions on how to switch countries and thus download an app from another country.

With the new steps taken, Google will also make it easier to find contact information for an app developer. Furthermore, Google will be more transparent about the prices of Google Flights, for example about the allowed hand luggage and hold luggage, and Google Hotels will offer more transparency about the reviews.
