Over 30,000 unique listings around the world were added to Airbnb last year. But the demand for crazy living spaces is so insatiable that the company wants to foot the bill to build more. Airbnb Creates a $10 Million OMG! This is a cool name for a fund to reward 100 participants with $100,000 so they can turn their quirky ideas into bona fide revenue streams.

Do you live in an amazing house or do you have a brilliant idea? Then be quick. From now through July 22, Airbnb will be accepting submissions, which will be judged on originality, feasibility, sustainability, and the experience the space will provide to guests. The expert jury includes style icon Iris Apfel, architect Koichi Takada, Airbnb Superhost Kristie Wolfe and Airbnb’s VP of Experiential Creative Product Bruce Vaughn.
There are only two requirements for winning participants. Upon completion of their projects, fund recipients will be required to rent out the new space on Airbnb and will not be allowed to list the property on competing short-term rental platforms for a year. Of course, the company also has to do something about it.

Many an Airbnb host has discovered that a creative remodel — spaceship, railcar, grain silo, covered wagon, glass bubble — can become a buzzing afterthought. The crazier the idea, the deeper the dedication to the theme, the better.
The site is looking for this kind of living space. Airbnb says the typical host in the US made more than $13,800 in 2021, an 85% increase from 2019. The number of nights booked at unique OMG!-worthy properties increased by more than 49% over the same period. So there is a market for it.
