Even before the official opening ceremony, you can tune in to the first sports competitions free of charge in the Olympia live stream. The ZDF shows some sports exclusively online and also in the ARD media library there will be sport on the internet every day apart from the TV broadcasts.

While we switch on at lunchtime in Germany, it is already 8 p.m. in China. As was the case at the last Summer Games in Japan in 2021, in addition to the sporting achievements, the fight against the corona virus will also prevail among the athletes so that they do not have to give up their dream of a gold medal prematurely and without a competition. The Opening Ceremony marks the start of the Winter Games, which will be held over the next two weeks. It is to be expected that China will put on a pompous spectacle. The Summer Games 2008 took place in Beijing in 2008, which also began with a visually stunning ceremony.
