Older versions will no longer support synchronization between devices
Are you a user who doesn’t like to update? Whether it’s because the current version suits you too well or because you don’t want to get used to the changes that the update will bring. And if you’re also a Chrome user, Google may soon force you to upgrade. According to the Android Police portal, older versions of the browser will soon stop supporting synchronization between devices.
Support ends for Chrome versions 48 and earlier
Google has announced the news in its official support forums. The company said that in addition to the release of the stable version of Chrome 96, support for synchronization between devices in versions 48 and earlier will end. Google confirmed the upcoming change long ago with the release of an update for Chrome Enterprise. Now it’s waiting for users of the classic version of the browser.
Thus, for example, if you use the browser on both your computer and your smartphone, you will not be able to easily return to the pages opened on your mobile phone after the support has ended. You will also have different search histories or different lists of saved passwords.
For context, Chrome 48 was released in 2016. So if you haven’t updated your browser in the last 5 years or more, maybe it’s time to do so. It hasn’t changed much in design or functionality since then, so if you’re not using an outdated operating system like Windows XP (which supports Chrome up to version 49), you can safely upgrade. You still have a few weeks to decide until the stable version 96 reaches all users.
