Official: Apple is ending the iPod

The iPod gave a whole generation of music, but after a long delay, Apple has finally pulled the plug on the iPod.

When it comes to portable devices, the iPhone has become an integral part of the world. However, before Apple introduced the iPhone to us in 2007, there was another portable device that Apple made popular: the MP3 player. The Americans were quick with the iPod, a kind of Walkman without a CD. A small device where you could put digital music on and play it with earphones or headphones. Pretty revolutionary and so at the end of the 90s until well into 2012, the iPod was an integral part of our lives. In theory, the iPod has always been a small device with a large rotary knob as the main control.

iPod Touch

What also caused a revolution was the iPod Touch. A kind of iPhone, but completely focused on music. At least, just like the iPhone, there was also an App Store with the possibility for almost all apps that an iPhone could also receive. It was basically an iPhone-sized iPad, because you couldn’t make calls with it (at least, it doesn’t have a SIM card in it). Why we mention this one: the iPod Touch is still for sale!

You can still buy the Apple iPod Touch with a starting price of 230 euros. That in itself would be a nice deal if an iPhone is out of budget, but the iPod Touch is… special. In appearance it is like a kind of thin iPhone 4 and the – slightly modified – A10 Bionic chip is also very old. You actually wonder why it is still being sold. Apparently Apple too, because they officially announce that the iPod is no longer being made.

Apple is discontinuing the iPod

That ends the iPod story after more than 20 years. How it works: You can still buy the iPod Touch through Apple, but only while supplies last. After that it’s enough. There will be no new iPod to replace the Touch. An alternative, according to Apple, is to take out an Apple Music subscription so that you can stream the music that the iPod offered to all of your other devices. If you’re interested in Apple Music, chances are you already own an iPhone, which is also an alternative to the iPod Touch.

We can’t imagine that the iPod Touch was still a very popular Apple product, but if you still want it: buy it as soon as possible.
