NS Nearby, that’s how the handy function in the NS app works

The NS app has a handy function called ‘In the neighbourhood’. Androidworld explains what you can do with this function.

NS Nearby

You may know a Nearby feature from the Marktplaats app where you can view ads nearby. The Dutch Railways now also comes with such a function for its app. This can be found in the middle of the navigation bar at the bottom and you can see at a glance which public transport options are available in your immediate vicinity.

You can search for a specific location where you are, for example, later in the day. You can also search your current location for facilities related to public transport in the area. You can filter on the options below. At the Park & ​​Ride locations you can also see the available places and opening times, as well as the rates.

• Park & ​​Ride

If you then tap a tram stop or train station on the map, you can plan a journey from that point. You will immediately see the departure times at the bottom of the screen. At the OV-fiets locations you can see how many bicycles are still available and the opening times. In addition, interesting places such as museums and amusement parks can be seen on the map. You cannot tap on this to view information, but you can, for example, search for a bus stop nearby and plan a trip from that point. Planning a trip from a point on the map in the Nearby function is done as usual in the first screen of the app.

The Nearby function makes it easier for travelers to plan a trip by public transport. The function is especially useful in places where they are not known, and also ensures that everything can be planned within the NS app.
