Nowatch, awareable that is not a watch

The Nowatch is not a watch, but an “awareable”. It turns out that there are a lot of well thought-out functions hidden in this remarkable wrist gadget.

Nowatch, hippie gadget from the clay?

The Nowatch seems to have walked away from Sedona, Big Sur or another Californian hippie paradise, but it comes from the Netherlands. And Finland. And India. And yes, California too.

This smartwatch that is not a smartwatch is not only a gadget, but also a philosophy. What makes the Nowatch “awareable” interesting is not so much what’s in it, but what’s not in it. Which in turn gives room for a unique design. For example, the “dial” is made by Indian craftsmen from a semi-precious stone, or milled metal. You can replace these watch faces with another at any time, depending on the clothing style you want at that moment.

Specifically for preventing stress

You can best see the gadget as a means to prevent stress. That is also the reason why there is no time display. After all, time increases stress, according to the makers.

The Nowatch contains advanced sensors from Philips’ health division, which continuously take measurements and monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature, for example. Up to an hour before stress occurs, this “awareable” can perceive the signs of it. You will then feel a vibration, so you know to slow down.

This way you can adjust your lifestyle so that you live healthier and more balanced.

Six sensors on the “awareable”

The Nowatch measures five things: heart rate, oxygen content, body temperature, air pressure and the electrical conductivity of your skin. There is also a sensitive motion sensor. Signs of stress are an increased heart rate and clammy skin. A clammy skin conducts electricity better, so that the “awareable” can measure stress much more accurately than standard smartwatches that only measure the heart rate.

The Nowatch is constantly connected to your smartphone. As a result, not only during the day, but also at night, for example, the quality of your sleep is monitored. This functionality also occurs in smartwatches and is not very special.

The Nowatch has no dial or other display. Instead, the device looks like a piece of jewelry and you communicate via Bluetooth with a smartphone app. For this reason you can do more than a week with a full charge. The gadget is rechargeable via USB-C.

For whom is the Nowatch awareable useful?

awareable

The makers of the Nowatch have made clear choices. They have invested in first-class sensors, instead of a wrist computer with a screen. That means that you can no longer speak of a smartwatch, but that it has become a unique gadget for people who want to put mindfulness into practice in everyday life. Which makes it logical that they chose the term awareable.

Do you practice mindfulness and do you want less stress in your life, for example on doctor’s advice? Then the Nowatch is interesting for you. This is also a very useful gadget for people with ADD because it warns them in time if they threaten to become overstimulated. It also exudes a certain class. With a price of around € 400, it is not a cheap gadget, for the same money you get a mid-range smartwatch. But the performance is first class. It is both a fashionable jewel and a gadget.
