Now the manufacturer expresses itself
It should be the new highlight in the portfolio of the German manufacturer AVM. So far nothing can be seen of the Fritzbox 6850 with 5G modem. Now AVM has commented on the delay of the special router. The explanation makes sense.
AVM: Fritzbox 6850 5G comes later
It was one of the router highlights at IFA 2019 and should be launched in 2020. But to this day the Fritzbox 6850 in the 5G version cannot be purchased. That shouldn’t change in the near futureas it turns out now.
In a statement to teltarif.de the German manufacturer AVM commented on the delay of the router. Here you can read of concerns that cannot simply be resolved.
According to AVM, the expansion of the 5G networks in Europe was delayed in 2020. The corona pandemic is not explicitly mentioned here, but it is likely to be the main reason that the expansion could not take place as planned. According to AVM it is also about the 5G Fritzbox high durability of the product. In order to be able to offer users “significantly improved compatibility with the 5G NSA networks”, the Fritzbox 6850 5G has not yet been put on sale.
AVM does not want to commit to a specific start date. In the statement, however, it is said that the Fritzbox will probably still be “In the spring of this year” is to be expected.
Tips for handling Fritz boxes:
In contrast to smartphones, which are basically replaced with a new model every two or three years, routers look a little different when it comes to longevity. AVM would like to be safe here to rely on the right standardsso that customers can still use their Fritzbox in a few years without difficulties in the 5G network.
Fritzbox 6850: LTE version already available
If you don’t want to wait for the 5G version, you can get the LTE version now. Internet via cellular networks is made possible here at speeds of up to 150 megabits per second. According to AVM, the router can be used “all over Europe”.
