Nova Launcher 7 rolled out after 8 months of beta, this is new

The developers of Nova Launcher, the popular launcher app for Android, have rolled out version 7 of the app. It comes with faster performance, visual improvements and a host of new features. We discuss the most important things.

When we talk about the most popular apps that want to replace the default behavior of our home screen with the app drawer, many people immediately think of Nova. After a test phase of eight months, version 7 of the app has now been rolled out, the developers announce. The launcher has thus received a whole new package of animations and visual improvements that are in line with the latest version of the launcher code that Google shares in AOSP.

Android Open Source Project or AOSP is the open source version of Android that is therefore accessible to everyone. The latest Android launcher features can be discovered by developers in the open-source code of the default launcher, thereby improving their apps. Nova Launcher’s code has now been completely rewritten, which should better prepare the app to roll out improvements more quickly for the future.

New functions

In addition to a different jacket, there are a whole host of new features. You can now force widgets to appear on the home screen with rounded corners. You can precisely adjust the shape for each individual icon on the home screen, while icons on the home screen become smarter at the same time. Users choose their own gestures for each icon, and you set actions for when you swipe up or down on icons.

Those who are not in favor of large weather widgets can display the current weather condition in Nova’s Google search widget. In addition, the developers have improved how search works in Nova and DuckDuckGo is recommended as the default search engine. You can still choose Google, of course.
