When you see him, you recognize him immediately; the Nokia 6500 Slide. This phone was released in 2007 by the Finnish manufacturer and it had a stainless steel casing. The device was described as the ideal camera phone and a premium design.
Nokia 6500 Slide
In the first half of 2007 there was the announcement of Nokia; here we saw a Nokia 6500 Classic and the Nokia 6500 Slide. Despite the same model number, they were two different devices. In this edition of ‘The forgotten telephone’ we go back fourteen years and tell you the ins-and-outs of this sliding telephone.
At the time of the release of the Nokia 6500 Slide, Nokia was still the major player in mobile phones. Partly with this slider phone, that success had to be continued. This phone revolved around the camera and the design. This Slide had a stainless steel housing, which also gave the device a very solid feel. You could choose from the colors silver-steel and black. As mentioned, you could slide out the black keyboard, after which you could start typing your text message, if desired with the T9 input.
The Nokia 6500 Slide had a wide grille at the top with a speaker, large brightness sensor and a front camera. Under the 2.2 inch that offered a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, was the well-known Nokia key layout with a navigation key and shortcut keys. At the bottom of the 6500 Slide, the phone was equipped with a connection for a 2.5mm headset, a Micro-USB port (which was not very well established at the time) and a TV-out output.
On the back of the stainless steel phone was a 3.2 megapixel camera, which Nokia had fully invested in. Taking pictures had to be even easier with the physical camera key that was placed on the side of the Nokia. A double LED flash was also present on the 6500. The cover on the back of the device was removable, so the 900 mAh battery was exchangeable. The camera scored highly with the photo quality for its price range. In front of the lens, there was again a collaboration with Carl Zeiss.
The device was certainly complete for that time. In addition to an MP3 player, you could also use the FM radio on the Nokia 6500 Slide. The front camera was also promoted. Where we can now no longer imagine a device without it, it was really different back then. When purchasing the device, headphones were included, as were a 256MB memory card and a TV-out cable; all this in a fairly large square box. When the device appeared, the price of the Nokia 6500 Slide was around 350 euros.
