no more collaboration with Leica

The marriage between Huawei and Leica is finally over and out. On Monday it was already announced that Xiaomi and Leica were continuing to tie the knot, but now there is also news from the Chinese manufacturer Huawei about the previous collaboration that the company had.

End of Huawei collaboration with Leica

On Monday, it was announced that Xiaomi will be collaborating with Leica, a big name in the field of photography. Although the rumor had been going around for months, it was still interesting news. Since 2016, Huawei and Leica had a collaboration, which started with the introduction of the Huawei P9 that bore the Leice branding. The colleagues of Android Authority have received confirmation from Huawei that the cooperation between Huawei and Leica has ended. This would have taken place on March 31.

The news means that the Huawei P50 and the Huawei P50 Pro are the last high-end smartphones from Huawei with Leica cameras. Notably, the foldable Huawei P50 Pocket didn’t sport the Leica branding; despite the fact that there was still a collaboration at the time. Future models will come about without Leica collaboration. An exact reason is not mentioned, but this undoubtedly has to do with the fact that due to the American sanctions Huawei hardly has a sales market here with smartphones.

In July we see the first Xiaomi smartphone, which was developed together with Leica.
