Next electric car classic comes to an early end
The first generation of electric cars is gradually disappearing. After BMW has just stopped producing and selling its debut i3, another early electric car will soon be hit: Nissan wants to saw off the Leaf. Some nostalgics may shed a tear for the small electric car, but Nissan has good reasons.
No more electric cars: Nissan draws a line under the Leaf
For more than ten years, German customers who have been enthusiastic about electric cars from an early age have been able to buy the Nissan Leaf. But the model doesn’t get much older. The manufacturer from Japan puts an end to its small electric car, the model is abandoned and production is discontinued. Last year, Nissan officials had already made it clear that the Leaf had no future in its current form. It was still unclear, however, whether a thorough revision was pending or whether the electric pioneer from Japan was done with. Now it is clear: Not only the Leaf, as we know it so far, will disappear. Nissan will not continue the model.
It’s no wonder, given that electric cars have come a long way since the Leaf’s launch. However, the Japanese passed almost without a trace. with real ones According to ADAC, the model can hardly convince with ranges of between 200 and 300 km.
Technically, the model is no longer up to date Fast charging with a maximum of 50 kW supported (in the newer Ze+ version). However, this is only possible via the CHAdeMO charging connection, which is common in Japan and has not been able to assert itself against CCS charging in Europe. Similar to the i3 from BMW, which the Bavarians also recently sawed off, the Leaf also takes some getting used to. You have to like the appearance of the small electric car, but Nissan has never achieved mass taste – and correspondingly high sales figures.
With the end of the Leaf, Nissan continues to rely on electric cars. A unofficial successor is also ready: the crossover SUV Ariya completely corresponds to the current status and can last significantly longer at 500 km.
