New version of CarPlay coming this year – you can expect this

Apple will release a new version of CarPlay this year. We’ve listed the most important new features for you.

New version CarPlay is coming

Apple announced in June last year that there will be a new version of CarPlay. The new generation of CarPlay is a major expansion of the first version of CarPlay and will be released this year. We list the new functions for you.

1. Completely new design for CarPlay

Perhaps the biggest change in the second-generation CarPlay is the design of the software. CarPlay was introduced with iOS 7 and hasn’t changed much since then. That will change with the new version of CarPlay.

In the new version of the operating system it is possible to enable a split-screen function. This way you can open apps side by side at the same time. In addition, with the new update it is possible to take over all screens in the car with CarPlay. CarPlay therefore takes over the speedometer and other screens.

2. CarPlay can access more data

CarPlay also accesses more data from the car, such as the speedometer, the temperature control and the fuel gauge. The radio and other functions of your car are also linked to CarPlay in the new update.

The big advantage of this link is that you can control all functions of your car via CarPlay. This way it is possible to use everything from the central screen in your car and you no longer have to search for all individual buttons in the car. CarPlay really becomes the center of your car.

3. New version CarPlay is more customizable

In iOS you get more and more freedom in personalizing the operating system and this will also happen with CarPlay. According to Apple, in the new version of CarPlay it is possible to adjust the font, the size of the letters and the colors.

You can also add widgets, so that you get clear information while driving, for example about the music you have on or about the local weather. The new generation of CarPlay can therefore be set up entirely according to your own preferences.

New CarPlay will appear at the end of this year

The new version of Apple’s CarPlay will appear at the end of 2023. Apple will probably show the new version for the first time at WWDC in June, after which the update will be launched later this year.

A large number of well-known car brands have already announced support for the new version of CarPlay. Those are:
