But despite the best efforts of the staff, and a budding friendship with fellow elder Roland (Bruce Davidson), strange occurrences and nightmarish visions convince Judith that a dark presence haunts the vast estate. When the residents begin to mysteriously die, Judith’s warnings are dismissed as fantasy. Even her devoted grandson Josh (Nicholas Alexander) thinks her fears stem from dementia, not demons. TROPHY
In Steffen Jacobsen’s Trophy, private detective Michael Sander travels to Finnmark, in northern Norway, where he is hired by Elizabeth Caspersen after she makes a macabre discovery. Among the belongings of her recently deceased father, the wealthy businessman Flemming Caspersen, she has found a DVD showing a film in which two people are literally chased to death in a gruesome way. Michael must investigate who the victims were and how and why Elizabeth’s father was involved in their deaths. Michael soon crosses paths with that of police inspector Lene Jensen, who is investigating the curious self-mourning of war veteran Kim Anderson in Denmark.
How are these two studies connected? And what exactly happened? Together, Michael and Lene search for answers, which soon prove increasingly ominous, violent and shocking than ever before.
Steffen Jacobsen (1956) is a Danish author best known for writing mystery stories and crime novels. Although he has published several books, only two of these have been translated into Dutch, namely; Trophy and Retaliation.
