André Hazes (S01)

No more endless rumours, this is the story of André Hazes. For two years, André was followed by documentary maker Cheeru Mampaey during perhaps the most difficult period of his life. He stands at a crossroads, wrestling with fears and demons. André enters into a battle, especially with himself, which is accompanied by some rigorous decisions.

Documentary maker Cheeru Mampaey: “The original intention of the documentary was to tell the story of André Hazes’ start-up during Corona towards his “The evening of your life” in Ahoy 2021. Yet life was just that little bit different. I had the opportunity to follow André very closely, also during his burnout and struggle with addictions. This ensures an honest, intimate and unique document where the viewer gets to see an André they don’t know yet.”

In the series, a self-reflective and critical André is visible, looking at the first images filmed for his documentary. During this time, his addictions played a major role in his daily life and that of his loved ones. By reflecting on these harrowing images, it becomes clear how he actually felt at the time and what André’s life has really been like over the past two years.
