Europe’s bestseller game: Super Mario 3D World at number 1
GfK, the largest German market research institute, takes a look at the current game sales figures in Germany and Europe at regular intervals. The first half of 2021 is now over, so it is high time to draw an interim conclusion and to choose the current bestselling game in Europe. Only the sale of physical versions is taken into account for the evaluation, digital sales figures are not included in the statistics.
Instead of FIFA 21, or long-running favorites like Minecraft or GTA 5, you can Tear the crown under the nail in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for the Nintendo Switch. The Switch remake of the Mario game for the Wii U dominated the charts in countries such as Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Norway. This is particularly astonishing as the game only came out on February 12, 2021 and thus only had four and a half months to secure pole position.
The current gaming leader in Europe: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury!
The soccer game FIFA 21 has to settle for second place, while another game from Nintendo can be found in third place: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. Even years after the release, the interest in the arcade racer seems to have remained unbroken.
Gaming hits in Germany: The Sims 4 is a PC bestseller
In Germany, too, the level of interest is similar. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury leads the bestseller list in this country too, FIFA 21 follows closely behind.
And which game will PC gamers still buy most often as a retail version in 2021? According to the GfK evaluation The Sims 4, released 7 years ago. Simulators are in great demand with us anyway, so the victory of the well-known Life Sim makes perfect sense.
PS5 gamers prefer to use Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in Germany, while Resident Evil Village was the most popular among Xbox Series gamers.
