New rugged phone Cat S75 with connectivity innovation is announced at MWC
Bullitt Group will present a new rugged phone at Mobile World Congress in the coming days. It concerns the Cat S75 and for the first time the loss of mobile reception is no longer a problem, the brand promises.
Cat S75
This device has a 6.6 inch screen and a large battery of 5,000 mAh that should last two days. The device runs on Android 12, but is not supported for very long in terms of operating system updates: it will receive two more OS updates. On the other hand, you can use it longer in terms of security updates, namely five years.
In terms of housing, a rugged smartphone is equipped in such a way that it can take a beating, making it suitable for use in heavy industry. Cat rugged phones have been made for years, but for the first time it now contains an NTN chip from MediaTek. This stands for non-terrestrial network and means that the smartphone can connect to geostationary satellites at about 37,500 kilometers above the earth. This way you can still send messages or an emergency signal even if you don’t have a normal mobile connection. The recipient does not need to have an NTN device, as they will receive a text message via the Bullitt Satellite Messenger service. You can then respond in the Bullitt app.
Rugged phone
This phone can survive a 1.8 meter drop onto steel and it is also dust, sand and dirt resistant. If you take it underwater, it will remain fine for up to 35 minutes at 5 meters, according to the tests. The IP ratings of the device are IP68 and IP69K. In terms of temperature, it can also handle something: it has been tested according to military standards (MIL-SPEC 810H), which means that it can handle extreme temperatures, but also humidity, salt fog and vibrations.
If you want to clean the device, you can simply use soap or an alcohol wipe. In addition, special hygiene technology has been used in the form of a layer of antibacterial silver ions on the device. Cat S75 is now available for pre-order at catphones.com and costs €599 (including a 3-month Bullitt Satellite Messenger subscription ‘Essentials’, which allows you to send up to 30 satellite messages). A subscription to the brand’s satellite messenger is normally available from 4.99 euros per month. Bullitt Satellite Messenger subscribers also receive a free 12-month trial subscription to FocusPoint International’s SOS emergency response service.

Motorola Defy Satellite Link
In addition to this rugged phone, Bullitt Group also comes with something else at MWC, namely the Motorola Defy Satellite Link. It’s a small, lightweight Bluetooth accessory that lets you communicate via satellite on any Android or iOS device. This way you still have a communication option in remote places where there is no mobile coverage. The Bullitt Satellite Messenger app also plays a role here, because you can then receive and send messages via satellite. Motorola Defy Satellite Link has also been tested against military standard MIL-SPEC 810H. It is IP68 water and dust resistant with a 600 mAh battery that lasts for several days. There is also a physical SOS button and a ‘location check-in’, if the smartphone linked to it is not nearby.
The device will be available from April 2023 via motorolarugged.com and costs 119 euros separately and 169 euros in combination with a year of Bullitt Satellite Messenger ‘Essentials’ (with up to 30 satellite messages and SOS emergency assistance).
