New premium router dispenses with known function
AVM has presented a new variant of its premium model Fritzbox 7590 AX. It offers fast Wi-Fi 6, but the manufacturer has decided not to use a classic component. This does not have a positive effect on the price – on the contrary, the router is now significantly more expensive.
Fritzbox 7590 AX: New variant without ISDN
The router manufacturer AVM presented the extensively equipped Fritzbox 7590 AX in May 2021. Now it seems it is time for a new variant. However, this differs only minimally from the original model, because it is only without an ISDN connection (Source: Caschy’s blog). AVM had already decided against the connection with the Fritzbox 6690 Cable.
If nothing has changed in the manufacturer’s reasoning, then an ISDN connection is, according to AVM simply outdated and no longer needed. The component is being phased out and should no longer play a role in future routers from AVM. It remains unclear why ISDN was not dispensed with during the development of the Fritzbox 7590 AX and there is now a new model.
So although a small function is now missing, customers should pay more for the new variant. The Fritzbox originally came on the market for 269 euros, but now it seems to be a whole 319 euros for the Fritzbox 7590 AX placed on the table (view at notebooksbilliger.de).
Both variants offer the fast standard Wi-Fi 6 and allow data transmission of theoretical 2.4 gigabits per second in the 5 GHz band. There are also four gigabit connections for wired LAN Internet.
Whether with or without ISDN: This is how you get more out of the Fritzbox.
ISDN: Replaced by IP telephony and mobile communications
The missing ISDN connection is likely in practice hardly noticed negatively. The “Integrated Services Digital Network” as the standard for digital telecommunications has long since been replaced by IP telephony (VoIP) and mobile networks, in which LTE and 5G are decisive.
