According to rumors, a new MacBook Air with OLED screen is on the way. The screen of this laptop is slightly smaller than the one in the current MacBook Air.

MacBook Air gets a (smaller) OLED screen

According to Ross Young (an expert in the field of displays), Apple is busy developing a MacBook Air with a 13.4-inch OLED screen. This model of the MacBook Air therefore has a slightly smaller screen than the current version of the laptop. It has a 13.6-inch LCD screen.

He said this in one tweet which is only accessible to subscribers. He also said that the MacBook Pro will probably not get an OLED screen until 2026. According to the display expert, only then will Apple have enough capacity to produce enough OLED screens for the laptops. Until that moment is there, the suppliers will mainly focus on OLED screens for tablets, such as the iPad Pro.

In December, Young said that Apple plans to equip the MacBook Air with an OLED screen in 2024. In addition, according to Young, there will also be a new iPad Pro with an OLED screen in 2024. Thanks to the OLED screens, these Macs and iPads have better brightness, contrast and are more energy efficient (compared to LCD screens).

iPhone SE 4 also gets OLED screen

Not only the next MacBook Air will get an OLED screen, because Ming-Chu Kuo recently said that the iPhone SE 4 will also get such a screen. The screen of the iPhone SE 4 will then be the same as the iPhone 14.

iPhone SE4 renders

According to the Korean website The Elec, this is also obvious. The iPhone SE 4 is an entry-level iPhone, so it’s smart to use what’s already in stock. Since the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 use the same OLED screen, there is probably enough stock to also provide the new iPhone SE 4 with an OLED screen.
