‘New iPad Pro won’t get a mini-LED ProMotion display’

According to Ross Young, Apple is working on a larger iPad Pro of no less than 14.1 inches with a mini-LED screen and ProMotion. Now, a week later, this Apple analyst is back on his prediction. What is going on?

Read on after the ad.

Last week, analyst Ross Young reported that Apple will launch a larger 14.1-inch iPad Pro in 2023. This iPad Pro would have a mini LED screen with ProMotion (120 Hz refresh). Now Young is correcting himself in a private tweet for his superfollowers. He says that the new iPad Pro will not get a mini-LED nor ProMotion. In fact, that 14.1-inch iPad may not even be a ‘Pro’ model at all! Instead, he thinks there will be a ‘regular’ iPad on the market in 2023.

In this article we explain everything about the older versions of the iPad (Pro) and which tablet from Apple we do expect. We also tell you expectations about the delivery date of the new iPad.

According to Young, this ‘normal’ iPad will have a screen of 14.1 inches, but unfortunately will not have mini-LED and ProMotion. The former is a display technique with many small (LED) lights. This provides a sharper image, higher contrast and deeper blacks. It is a mix between the classic LED technology and OLED.

ProMotion is Apple’s name for a refresh rate of 120 Hz. That means the screen refreshes 120 times per second. This makes for much smoother images. We already find this technology in the iPhone 13 Pro, among others.

We do find it a bit strange that according to these rumors Apple is going to launch a large iPad, but that it is not a Pro version. This line of thinking is in line with what Mark Gurman, another reliable Apple analyst, said earlier. According to this journalist from Bloomberg, Apple will already launch an iPad Pro in 2022. We expect to see it in September.

Reportedly, a screen size of 14.1 inches is too large to apply the mini-LED and ProMotion technology to the iPad Pro. In another tweet Young tells us that the screen suppliers have confirmed both iPads. However, the jump in screen sizes (and quality) is too big to guarantee a good price.

iPadOS 16: Stage Manager only for iPad with M1

Earlier we found out that only iPads with an M1 chip can apply the latest software functions. Think especially of the brand new Stage Manager of iPadOS 16.

Apple said in a statement that this feature, which makes your iPad more like a desktop, requires a lot of memory, fast storage and ‘Memory Swap’. This is only possible with an M1 chip. Apple’s switch may also have something to do with these developments.
