Neil Patrick Harris plays a Christmas comedy about Nintendo -apkrig
Another game with a game theme will arrive exclusively on the HBO Max streaming service before Christmas this Christmas. The comedy 8 Bit Christmas has its premiere on November 24 and its main star is the American actor Neil Patrick Harris, who became famous as Barney in the series How I Met Your Mother. But Steve Zahn will also play in the film.
Console under the tree? Forget!
The story takes us back to Chicago in the 1980s, and its protagonist is a little boy who longs to get the best gift of all for Christmas – the NES console. But he needs a real Christmas miracle because his parents are against it. And best of all, you can take this story and just imagine it’s our nineties. Not with another console, certainly with the same one, because that’s how we lived here a decade later.
The story is told by an adult, Jake Doyle (Neil Patrick Harris), to his daughter, and the humor will obviously be based on the fact that his memories are not always 100% authentic. As crazy as the premise may seem to some, it is based on the reality of the time, when the NES was indeed extremely popular and difficult to obtain. Yes, capturing a console in a store used to be a problem even before the chip crisis.
By the way, the story of the film The Wizard from 1989 also revolved around the NES console. In Todd Holland’s film, they played Beau Bridges, Christian Slater, Tobey Maguire or Fred Savage, who became famous for the role of Kevin in the series Wonderful Years.
Canadian Michael Dowse, who has, for example, the films RanaĆ and The F Word, sat on the chair of director 8 Bit Christmas. But he also has to make a film adaptation of the crazy action of Just Cause, for example. The screenplay was written by Kevin Jakubowski based on his own book. The film was shot in March in Toronto. Whether the film will look at normal cinema distribution in addition to the US in the rest of the world is not entirely clear at the moment, but in markets where there is no HBO Max, it is possible.
