Neeva starts AI search in Germany

As an ad-free alternative, Neeva could not only compete with Google search. Because the US company is also targeting the currently very popular AI software ChatGPT.

Already in October, Neeva announced the launch of its ad-free search engine for Germany. A few months later the time has actually come How TechCrunch reported.

The AI search engine NeevaAI has been available in the USA since January. The ad-free alternative to Google is now also being launched in Germany, Canada, Great Britain, France and Spain.

What can Neeva’s ad-free search do?

The company itself denotes NeevaAI as “authentic real-time AI search”.

Because the search engine does not respond to a question with a list of links – as users are used to. Instead, the AI search engine searches for answers and compiles its own with citations from original sources.

The US company completely dispenses with advertising and tracking. Instead, the search engine should finance itself through subscriptions.

It also means that search results don’t abound for users with sponsored links. They can focus on their search and the organic results.

The Neeva subscriptions at a glance

Neeva wants herself though finance through its premium subscriptions, but also offers a free version. In this tariff, however, users must expect restrictions.

In the free tariff, for example, the ad-free searches per month are limited to 50. Neeva also limits the devices linked for an account to two here.

In the premium subscription, users can link unlimited devices to their account. The number of ad-free searches is also not limited. There is also a premium password manager, for example.

Neeva charges 4.99 euros per month for this. With an annual subscription, the monthly price drops to 4.17 euros.

No answer to “stupid” questions

Neeva aims to be “fail-safe” and “not provide false information,” as founder Sridhar Ramaswamy told TechCrunch explained.

Therefore, it can also happen that you don’t get an answer to a question at all.

So if there is no answer, we refuse to answer.

“If you ask a stupid question, it just won’t say anything,” Ramaswamy continues. But that should change soon.

Who is behind the ad-free search engine?

The company behind the ad-free search engine was founded in California in 2019. It was founded by two former senior Alphabet employees.

Sridhar Ramaswamy led the advertising business at Google, his co-founder Vivek Raghunathan was VP of monetization at Google’s sister company YouTube.

In order to remain independent of the major search engines, the company is working on its own search stack. In this way, Neeva could work independently in the long term. So far, the search for some queries is based on that of Bing.
