‘My son had improvised everything’

If you can’t see the wood for all the trees and have missed an important message from school, you can kick yourself. But if it turns out that your little one has already solved it all, it secretly makes you proud.

Mieke (39), mother of Faas (12):

“On December 8, there was a message in the school app that Faas had to give a speech on December 14, including a PowerPoint presentation. I read all this on the 16th. I was shocked, not only was it already two days ago, he hadn’t said anything about it either.

No organization, but improvisation

Faas is in special education. He is not a great planner and I had promised to help structure the presentation. In the evening I asked him about the speech. Yes, he had. Without computer or digiboard. He had improvised everything with a straight face. Faas is substantively strong and has a photographic memory. He had already done a paper on the American eagle once and he had now told that story to the class.

“Obviously I was super proud, but I felt I was falling short”

Fortunately, his teacher appreciated the spontaneous initiative and he was not deducted for missing the presentation. Of course I was very proud, but I felt a bit lacking.”
